Pulling in more than 13 million tourists every year, Greece is one of the world’s most popular holiday spots. And it’s not hard to see why. Spotless sands, centuries of history, and traditional sugar-cube towns are just the start of what the country has to offer.

Big-name islands

The biggest of the Greek islands is Crete, which boasts 650 miles of coastline and some impressive historical sights. Corfu – AKA the Emerald Isle – is known for its lush interior. Rhodes, meanwhile, gets the prize for the best sunshine record in these parts. As for Kos and Zante, they do a great line in beaches and have impressive after-dark scenes.

Lesser-known isles

Santorini, Mykonos and Skiathos have all put a cosmopolitan gloss on the classic Greek combination of sun, sea and sand, while Kefalonia and Skopelos offer up beautiful beaches and laid-back towns. Thassos and Samos like to stay out of the spotlight – the beaches here are footprint-free and cypress trees are the only high rises you’ll find.

The island complex of Dodecanese in south-eastern Aegean is the sunniest corner in Greece. Twelve large islands and numerous smaller ones with crystal clear waters, sandy or pebbly beaches, important archaeological finds, imposing Byzantine and medieval monuments and unique traditional settlements are waiting to be discovered. If you are desperately seeking to discover lesser-known, unspoiled destinations visit Leros or Pserimos. But there is always Rhodes and Kos, larger and more cosmopolitan islands awaiting to offer you strong, and treasured memories. Just take your pick!
A scenic slice of Greece The Olympia Coast winds along the west of mainland Greece. It’s a completely unspoiled corner of the country, defined by deep valleys, soaring mountain ranges and fields of cypress trees. Even the beaches are largely undeveloped – hotels in the main resorts, like Killini and Lakkopetra, line up behind quiet crescents of sand that melt into the Ionian Sea.
Pelion has some extraordinary natural beauty with the many of the villages linked by scenic pathways, passing through the dense forest. The Volos and Pelion region is an excellent place for ramblers and nature lovers to enjoy a holiday in Greece

Explore the Sporades islands, in the northwest Aegean! Dense vegetation; rocky landscapes, and pure blue seas: a uniquely alternative destination. Go island-hopping in a paradise island complex! Trace Skiathos walking routes, and discover its hidden beauties. With your mind’s eye follow the footsteps of great writers, such as Alexander Papadiamantis, as they walked through dense forests and olive groves! The nature enthusiasts should follow a lovely route through the famous Koukounaries forest and around Lake Strofilia. (Length 4.2 km). Alternatively, take a leisurely, easy walk round Kanapitsa Peninsula (4,9km)!
